Two Column Notes
I wanted a low tech way to provide students with practice during direct instruction while still being able to formatively assess them. I created the Two-Column notes method where one side is "My Side" and consists of ntoes and the other side is "Your Side" or the students' side where they answer questions and do practice problems during direct instruction. This allows me to walk around and see their progress and gives them practice with both open ended and multiple choice questions throughout a unit.
Evolution Test Prep
This Google Site contained a formative assessment that was used before the review for the Evolution Test. This was divided into sections and students self assessed themselves and watched videos in the areas they struggled in. They then re-took the assessment and moved onto an enrichment activity. Mitosis Formative
Students took the following formative assessment as their Exit Ticket for the day. Students accessed this link via QR code or a link through nearpod. This formative was then used to differentiate the next day. Here is the formative assessment:
Genetics Exit Tickets
This unit was a difficult unit for my students as it involved some manipulation of alleles similar to variables. So in order for me to ensure that students didn't get left behind, we had daily hard copy exit tickets and students would be given exit tickets based on which level of Mendelian Genetics they were at. And they would not move onto the next level until they achieved mastery. Here is a PDF of the different tickets:
Evolution Quizalize
Students completed a Quizalize which is a tool that allows easy differentiation. Students that received less than a 50% went through a video remediation and then has an opportunity to retake the test. Students that scored above an 80% completed an enrichment activity. And students that feel in between completed a self-paced check your understanding and then retook the test.
