Over the course of my teaching career, I have had many opportunities to incorporate digital learning where students can continue learning even in my absence. These activities have been utilized on Digital Learning Days (both planned and unplanned), for my absences, or for remediation/enrichment at times when I am working with another group. These have allowed me to not only support students when they are not at school, but also allow me to be in two places at once during class.

Below are examples of some of the assignments and videos that I have created and implemented in my classroom.

Digital Interactive Notebooks

I have loved using interactive notebooks the past few years! It is super helpful in keeping students organized (especially those with learning disabilities)! Since we will be going digital this year, I wanted to have something for students that still allows them to have notes, complete card sort activities, and other resources that we use in class. So I created Digital Interactive Notebooks! You won't be able to move pieces or type unless you make a copy!

Interactive Projects

With digital learning days, I try to make the assignments as simple and easy for my students. In order to allow my students the ability to have some variation, I like to include projects as well and I have made them interactive yet tamper proof so students cannot mess up!

Here are a few of examples of the projects:

Ecology Vocabulary Project (with easy definition and picture template)

Classification Project (with a minion cladogram drag and drop)

Biotechnology Project (with a crime science drag and drop)

Multiple Ways to Learn

For one of the units during digital learning, I created a website for students to learn about a specific topic through a medium of their choice - video, articles, or podcast - before taking an exit ticket!

Here is an example of the website:

DLD Video and Quiz

For this assignment, students watched a video in which I walked them through new material. They then took a quick formative to assess their understanding of the material. The assignment can be accessed here:

Mitosis Demo

My students were given an oral assessment in which they had to walkthrough the steps of Mitosis using manipulatives. To ensure they were prepared, I made a video of the demo so that they had plenty of opportunity to recap the steps on their own time. The video can be accessed here:

Genetics Videos

During the Mendelian Genetics unit, it was crucial that students learned the basic skills before moving onto the challenging skills. Since all my students were at different points, I created video lessons for the challenging skills in which students went through the notes and had a chance to check their own understanding. They followed the video lessons with practice and formative assessments. Here are a few of the videos created for that unit:
